Self-care

Uncategorized Nov 21, 2023

This week can be full of so much excitement, and I find that it's hard sometimes to take a minute to care for myself amongst all the planning, cooking excitement, and people.

Over the last few years, I have learned the value of figuring out beforehand where I'm going to go when I need a minute. My bedroom has become my little hideaway when people come over. I love hosting and being in charge of Thanksgiving, but the day can also produce some sensory overwhelm for me.

There will inevitably be a time or two—maybe even three—that I need to step out and take some deep breaths. This could be due to a triggering conversation or the loudness of children, but regardless of what's going on, I know I need to take care of myself.

I would like to encourage you to do the same, even if you don't think you're going to need a break. Planning a place and creating an environment that helps you calm down are necessary. If it's not your room, figure out a space in the house, even if it's the bathroom, or you can have a candle lit, set a timer for 5 minutes, and practice some breathing. Your body will thank you.

Taking these breaks allows you to show up as a healthier, more present you, and that is so worth it.
